It is the goal of Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue, Inc. (HRHR) to place each horse in the home best suited to the
needs of each horse.
In addition, horses adopted from HRHR cannot be used for breeding, nor can they be re-sold or given away. The
horse cannot be relocated from the original approved facility without permission of HRHR. In the event that placement
does not work out for any reason, HRHR requires that the horse be returned to HRHR. Adopted horses must go to a
home that has at least one other horse. Horses are herd animals and require the companionship of at least one
other horse.
Before any horse may be adopted from HRHR, the following procedures must be followed:
1. The adoption questionnaire must be completed, signed, and returned along with this cover letter
and a $10.00 non-refundable submission fee to HRHR.
2. Once the application has been returned to HRHR, the prospective adopter must schedule an
appointment to meet with our trainer(s). The purpose of this meeting is to allow HRHR the
opportunity to evaluate the compatibility of the horse and prospective adopter.
3. Once the prospective adopter is determined capable of working safely with the horse alone,
he/she must schedule no less than two more visits to work with the horse. HRHR may require,
at any time, additional sessions.
4. Upon completion of the working sessions, if HRHR determines that the prospective adopter and
horse are reasonably compatible, HRHR will schedule an appointment to inspect the property
where the horse will be kept. HRHR will also contact the references listed on the adoption
application at this time.
5. Following an acceptable facility inspection and reference check, HRHR's Board of Directors
will evaluate all information and make a final decision. HRHR may approve or deny final
adoption and reserves the right to deny adoption for any reason, at its sole discretion, and is
not obligated to state that reason.

When all requirements have been met, and preliminary adoption procedures have been satisfied,
HRHR will require the following to finalize adoption:
1. Completion of permanent adoption contract, with terms and conditions as HRHR may, at its
sole discretion, determine.
2. Payment in full of a non-refundable adoption fee, based on the potential of each horse,
determined and set by HRHR at its sole discretion (unless payment arrangements have
been made previously).
3. If alternate payment arrangements have been previously agreed upon they will become
effective at this time.
4. Upon final adoption of the horse, HRHR reserves the right to transport the adopted horse to
the adopters facility for a nominal fee of $35.00 trailer hook-up and $0.50 per mile round
trip.
5. HRHR reserves the right to conduct unscheduled follow-up checks on the adopted horse and
the facility at HRHR's discretion and at least on an annual basis. Upon placement of the horse
the adopter is required to submit an annual health statement from the adopter's veterinarian.
